Live Well UK wins NHS Suffolk healthy lifestyles service provision

‘Getting Suffolk even fitter and healthier’ – that’s the message from healthy lifestyles organisation Live Well UK and NHS Suffolk.

Live Well UK has been awarded the contract by NHS Suffolk to deliver healthy lifestyle services in the county from 1 April 2011.

In Suffolk, the project will be known as Live Well Suffolk.

They will provide services including stop smoking support, weight management programmes, nutrition and diet advice and public awareness campaigns to raise levels of physical fitness.

Dr Peter Bradley, NHS Suffolk’s director of public health said: “Suffolk people generally make good choices and are some of the healthiest people in the country, with an enviable average life expectancy.

However, there are still some areas where health is poor and life expectancy much lower than it should be. It is important that we give people the support they want so they succeed in improving their health, including support to help them stop smoking, eat healthily and take regular exercise.”

Commenting on their new contract, Tim Roberts of Live Well UK, said: “We are very excited about delivering the healthy lifestyles service in Suffolk and will be working closely with GP Practices, health professionals, the voluntary sector and many others active in the health agenda as we put the plans in place over the next few months.”

Live Well Suffolk will be working alongside Healthy Ambitions Suffolk with the aim of making Suffolk the healthiest county in the UK by 2028.
